Women’s Cross-Country 

returns to action in Joplin

ADA – The East Central University women’s cross-country team will return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede at the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.

The Lady Tigers are one of 21 teams in the 5K race, including five teams from the Great American Conference. The race will consist of teams from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA, with the race set to start at 8:30 a.m.

A year ago, ECU finished 11th (of 18) at the same race. Junior ReGina Germaine led the Lady Tigers at the event, finishing 50th in a time of 19:06.17. Sophomore Kortney CeBallos and Allison Faircloth also ran in the race. CeBallos finished in 22:02.19 and Faircloth in 23:35.16.

Men’s cross-country prepares

for Missouri Southern Stampede

ADA – The East Central University men’s cross-country team will return to the course after a week off when they travel to Joplin, Mo., to compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9:45 a.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.

The Tigers are one of 19 teams competing in the 8K race, including four teams from the Great American Conference. ECU will compete against teams from all NCAA and NAIA divisions.

The Tigers have been to the race for at least the last five years, finishing 10th (of 16) in 2012. Sophomore Arturo Nava is the top returner for ECU, finishing 75th in a time of 27:16.45. Sophomore Zacharie Jeandemange also competed for the Tigers, finishing in 29:53.35.

Women’s golf finishes seventh

at NSU Women’s Classic

TULSA — The East Central University women’s golf team finished seventh out of 11 teams at the 2013 Northeastern State Women’s Classic at Cherokee Hills in their first tournament of the 2013-14 season.

The Lady Tigers finished with a team score of 674 (340-334) after cutting six strokes off their total between days one and two.

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
