Cougars have trouble with Bethel

Ada —

The scoreboard at Cougar Field refused to work for Ada’s home contest with Bethel Tuesday night. It might have been for the best. There wasn’t much to see on Ada’s half anyway.

A day after the Cougars exploded for 20 runs on a 20-3 victory over Holdenville, Bethel hurler Hunter Heath scattered four hits as the Wildcats defeated host Ada 4-1.

“We didn’t get enough base runners on base. I thought there were some things we could have done — their guy kind of scuffled in the stretch — but we just didn’t get enough base runners on,” said first-year head coach Elliott Alberson, who watched his team fall to 2-4. “That’s guy (Heath) is pretty good too, so give him some credit. He worked in and out on us, and we missed it a few times.”

The game remained scoreless before Bethel finally got to Ada,  starting pitcher Scott Johnson in the top of the fourth inning.

Heath led off with a walk and was standing at third with one out thanks to a stolen base and a passed ball. Garrett Fitzgerald drove in the game’s first run with an RBI single to left field. The Wildcats would tack on three more runs in their big inning thanks in part to a pair of untimely Ada errors.
