Shawnee —

The Allen Mustangs placed three players in double figures, shot just over 50 percent and dominated the backboards in rolling to a 61-54 victory over the Earlsboro Wildcats Tuesday night in the first round of the Tri-County Tournament at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Noble Complex.

Allen, which improved to 11-7 on the season, advances to Friday’s 8:45 p.m. semifinal clash against Wetumka, which knocked off Asher 60-57 in another first-round meeting on Tuesday.

“I thought we rebounded well and executed our offense a little better tonight,” said Allen head coach Greg Mills.

In a first-round girls game, abysmal shooting and a slew of turnovers by Allen proved to be costly, as Wellston’s Lady Tigers rolled to a 48-39 win.

Allen, which fell to 7-11 on the season, connected on just 15-of-51 field-goal attempts and even struggled from the free-throw line, converting only 5-of-14 attempts.
