Cougars roll past Harrah, 10-1

HARRAH —      Micah Simmer had a strong pitching effort and Walker Whitworth collected three hits and drove in five runs as the Ada Cougars routed host Harrah 10-1 in six innings Saturday in high school baseball action.

     Simmer gave up just three hits and three walks while striking out four in working six complete innings. The lone Panther run was earned.

     “I thought we played well in all phases of the game. Micah threw it well. We played solid behind him and strung together some hits,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson.

     Whitworth went 3-for-4 with a double to go with the five RBIs and scored twice to ignite the Cougars’ nine-hit attack.

     Garrett Beam was 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs, while Easton Pingleton went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Ada’s two other hits came from Dalton Wolf and Jake Boone, whowere 1-for-3 each and scored twice.

     Harrah jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning advantage before the Cougars scored five runs in the second, scored their sixth run in the fifth and scored four more times in the sixth to put the game away.

     Ada (9-11) hosts Seminole on Monday at 4:30 p.m. and plays at Noble on Tuesday for another 4:30 p.m. contest.

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
