Cougars edge Stonewall

Ada High Baseball

Stonewall — Micah Simmer, Scott Johnson and Walker Whitworth each drove in a run as the Ada Cougars knocked off the Stonewall Longhorns, 5-3, in baseball action on Monday.

Whitworth’s run-scoring single in the third was followed by Simmer’s RBI double as Ada took a 2-0 advantage. Johnson drove in his run off a single in the fourth which led to a 4-0 Cougar advantage.

Stonewall got to within 4-3 with a three-run fifth, highlighted by a Gage Burns run-scoring double. Burns went 2-for-4 from the plate with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored.

Jake Boone was 1-for-2 from the plate for Ada with two runs scored. Simmer went 1-for-3 with the one RBI and Johnson and Whitworth were each 1-for-4 with one RBI. Whitworth also scored a run.

Hayes went 2-for-3 for the Longhorns and Austin Berry was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Reid Kinder got the pitching win for the Cougars and Whitworth earned the save. Kinder worked four-plus innings as he allowed all three earned runs off six hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Whitworth allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out four in the final three frames.

Berry, the starter, took the loss for Stonewall, giving up four earned runs off three hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Tanner Dees pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run off two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Longhorns held a 7-5 edge in total hits.

Ada was scheduled to host Plainview on Tuesday, while Holdenville comes to town on Friday.
