NOTEWORTHY: The Latta Lady Panthers were a little rusty after just stepping off the basketball court (after a Class 2A State Tournament appearance) and on to the softball field without a full practice under their belts. Valliant  (No. 6 in Class 5A) outhit Latta 13-9. Savanna Humphrey was a bright spot at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Latta scored three runs in the top of the fourth to get within 7-5 but Valliant answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away.

NOTEWORTHY: Latta was outhit 13-10 in the second game of the day and fell to Hugo 9-5. Chelsea Alexander doubled in the first and later scored. Anna Wood hit a solo home run in the second to cut the score to 3-2, but Hugo tacked on two more runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth. The Lady Panthers had trouble stringing hits together to score runs. 

COACHES QUOTE: “It is early and we have a lot to work on. They just stepped off the basketball court and with the rain over the weekend, we did not have a chance to get on the field to practice. These games give us an idea of what we need to focus on,” — Latta head coach Jim Foster.

NOTEWORTHY: Tristan Milburn and Tarin Dubler each went 2-for-3 from the plate and Haley Odell hit a two-run double as Class A No. 2 Asher blanked 2A No. 5 Soper in a five-inning, time-limit contest on Monday in the Rattan Festival. The Lady Indians scored two in the first and two in the fourth in compiling eight hits. Soper also finished with eight hits. Desaray Goodgion and Sarah Wauahdooah each had a single and Wauahdooah recorded the shutout and pitching win.

NOTEWORTHY: Tarin Dubler was 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and single while Kayla Riddle hit a two-run double as Class A No. 2 Asher upended Class A No. 1 Red Oak, 5-2, on Monday in the Rattan Festival. Haylee Andrews also doubled while Haley Odell, Marissa Cheatwood, Desaray Goodgion and Shleby Fleming added a single apiece. Sarah Wauahdooah got the pitching win to improve to 8-2.

Record: Asher is 8-2
