NOTEWORTHY: Tanner Andrews fired a one-hit shutout as the Asher Indians blanked the visiting Roff Tigers in a fall baseball season opener. He allowed just three walks and struck out seven in working all seven innings. Caleb Dubler went 2-for-3 with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning. He also finished with two runs batted in and a pair of scored runs. Teammate Trucker Lee was 2-for-2 and knocked in one run. Roff’s only hit came off a single from Rayce Stephens. Roff starter Dalton Reed was tagged with the loss after working the first three innings. Mike Anderson worked the final three frames. Asher finished with six hits.

NOTEWORTHY: Tara Madron struck out eight, walked only one and allowed just four hits as Konawa edged Holdenville to open the 2013 fast-pitch softball season. Konawa’s only three hits came off a single apiece from Madron, Shelby Campbell and Savanna Hicks. Jennifer Tooley knocked in one of the runs off a groundout.

  • Cougs continue to win Ada stretches win streak to seven

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
