Ada — Junior Cory Kilby fired in a career-high 38 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as the Ada Cougars rolled to a 63-49 win over McLoud on Friday in the semifinals of the Global Productions Basketball Tournament at Bethel High School.

Ada, which improved to 3-1, was scheduled to play a yet-to-be determined opponent on Saturday in the championship game.

Kilby’s effort was two better than his previous career high of 36 against McAlester last season.

“Cory obviously had a breakout game, after struggling somewhat in the two previous games. He got some slam dunks,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson. “Cory was able to play the way he wanted to and they played a 2-3 zone against us.”

Senior Walker Whitworth added 12 points on four 3-pointers in the contest.

“Whitworth came out and got us four 3s. Three of them came in the first half,” Anderson said.

The Cougars jumped on McLoud by a 21-7 count after one quarter and cruised on to a 37-20 halftime advantage. Ada’s lead swelled to 56-33 after three periods.

Kilby tallied 22 points, including two treys, and senior David Forbes followed with 12, including two 3-pointers, as the Cougars crushed the Indians.

“We played really well on defense the first two quarters and outscored them by 17 in the third, which really led to some separation,” said Anderson.

Also for Ada, Jermaine Lawson connected on one trey and finished with eight and Garrett Bacon ended up with seven.

The Cougars jumped out to a 13-2 lead through one quarter and coasted to a 24-9 halftime lead. Ada then outscored Little Axe by a 27-10 score in the third for a 51-19 advantage.
