Ada — Tigers set to host Southwestern Adventist

ADA – The East Central University men’s basketball team will return to the Kerr Activities Center for the Tigers' final game of the 2013 portion of the season when they host Southwestern Adventist at 11 a.m. Friday. The early game time has been set so local fifth-grade students can attend as a holiday field trip.

The Tigers are 5-4 overall after winning their last game at Rogers State, 82-79. ECU was led by senior Henry Pwono, who tallied a career-best 28 points and added seven rebounds and one block. Pwono had a career-high nine field goals and 10 made free throws, going 9-of-11 (.818) from the field and 10-of-12 (.833) from the charity stripe.

This will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Knights, who have been idle since Dec. 11, when they fell 86-66 at the University of Dallas.

SWAU was led by a trio of players with double-digit point totals. Terry Eichelberg was the top producer with 22 points and five rebounds. Kein Squarzon added 15 points, while Manuel Gonzalez tallied 14 points and six rebounds.

The Knights show 45.5 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

After the matinee battle with SWAU, the Tigers will have two weeks off before returning from the holidays and getting right back into Great American Conference action. ECU will travel to face Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women’s team (5:30 p.m.).
