NOTEWORTHY: Stratford knocked down 14 3-pointers as Jon Golden and Matt Blackburn connected on five apiece in the Bulldogs’ 82-31 rout of host Wynnewood on Tuesday. Golden totaled 17 points, and Blckburn ended up with 16. Bobby Cothren followed with 13 points, including one trey, for Stratford. Eleven players got into the scoring column for the Bulldogs. Cade Savage followed with eight points, and Brenton Willingham added six on a pair of 3-pointers. Stratford jumped out to a 19-6 advantage after one quarter, led 46-16 at halftime and had a 65-21 cushion heading into the fourth period.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We put four pretty good quarters together. We shot the ball well and everybody played well together. It was a good win,” — Stratford head coach Mark Qualls.

Record: Stratford is 14-5; Wynnewood 3-12.

NOTEWORTHY: Tupelo converted just 15-of-63 shots from the floor, including only 4-of-20 from 3-point range, as the Tigers dropped a 48-43 decision at Class B 12th-ranked Wapanucka on Tuesday. John Umsted paced Tupelo with 16 points, including a pair of treys, and Corey McCollum added eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The two teams were tied at 23 at halftime, and the Tigers actually held a 36-27 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. But Wapanucka outscored Tupelo by a 21-7 margin in the final period to capture the victory.

  • Cougs continue to win Ada stretches win streak to seven

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
