Ada boys slam Madill, 78-50

Ada — It was showtime again for the Ada High boys basketball team.

The Cougars run-and-gunned their way to leads of 20-5 and 41-15 and buried Madill 78-50 Tuesday night inside the Cougar Activity Center.

Coach Ron Anderson’s team (No. 16 in Class 4A) improved to 10-6, while Madill slumped to 4-8.

Ada hit eight of its first nine field goals and forced six Madill turnovers in opening the game with a 20-5 surge.

“I told the kids afterwards, 'Making shots sure solves a lot of problems,'” Anderson said. “This reminds me of our Blanchard game (Ada scored 40 points in just under 11 minutes in that 79-45 victory). When we make baskets and get to the glass like we did tonight ... it’s a pretty good group to watch. I told them I think we can be a pretty good team, but we’re also fun to watch at the same time.”

Ada star junior Cory Kilby didn’t miss a thing. He had four highlight reel dunks in the game, including two in the initial volley. In fact, he scored the first two points of the game on a one-handed throw-down after a steal by Tryce Prince. His next dunk also followed one of six Prince steals in the game. But this time, Prince was the first one down the court and made a backward bounce pass to the trailing Kilby, who flushed it home with two hands.

Later in the first quarter, Kilby slammed the ball home after a outback. His one-handed monster slam capped Ada’s game-opening 41-15 run that ended at the 4:15 mark of the second period.

Kilby would finish a perfect 10-of-10 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line for a game-high 29 points.

Ada shooting guard Walker Whitworth, who usually makes his living from beyond the 3-point arc, hit two triples against Madill and scored on repeated drives to the basket. He finished with 21 points and three steals.

Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
