NOTEWORTHY: The Class A 13th-ranked Roff Lady Tigers, winners of 12 of their last 13 games, limited Moss to two points in the second quarter and only three in the fourth in rolling to a 53-29 victory Monday in the first round of the S.T.A.R. Tournament at Konawa High School. Lauren Trimmer poured in a game-high 18 points and had one of her team’s two 3-pointers in leading victorious Roff. Breecia Crawford and Jalee Hood followed with 10 points apiece and Amy Crawford added nine, including the team’s other trey, for the Lady Tigers. Macy Crote tossed in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead Moss. Roff, leading 15-11 after one quarter, went on a 10-2 run in the second to lead 25-13 at halftime. The Lady Tigers led 42-26 after three quarters and closed the game with an 11-3 spurt in the fourth.

Record: Roff is 15-3

NOTEWORTHY: Landon Garcia knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 32 points as Coalgate edged host Konawa, 61-60, in overtime on Monday in the first round of the S.T.A.R. Tournament. The Lady Wildcats, who connected on 11 three-pointers on the night, hit a trey to send the game to overtime and won it with a late 3-pointer. Whitney Williams added 11 points, including one trey; Mckyla Jacobs finished with nine points on three 3-pointers; and Shelby Martindale contributed six points on a pair of treys. Brittany West topped the Lady Tigers with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Cheyenne Galimba tossed in 13 points, grabbed six boards and recorded four steals. Roshawn Williams also tacked on nine points in a losing cause. Dominique Lyon had seven points, including a 3-pointer, and Danielle Khoury scored six points and ended up with five assists. The two teams were deadlocked at 49, heading into OT. It was the second straight loss by Konawa to Coalgate.

COACH’S QUOTE: “Our girls played hard. It was a heartbreaking loss,” said Konawa head coach Gordon Garner.

Record: Konawa is 4-7; Coalgate 2-7.

NOTEWORTHY: Zach Snow registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds as Konawa cruised to a 74-52 win over Moss Monday in the first round of the S.T.A.R. Tournament. Silas Larney followed with 12 points, three steals and three assists for the Tigers. Haydoekeyo Tsosie and Brandon Davis added 10 points each for Konawa as Davis nailed two 3-pointers while Tsosie had one. Caynaan Garner tacked on eight points and Dylan Tatum ended up with six for the winners. Justin Fitzgerald and Landon Moody each finished with 12 points for Moss and each converted a pair of 3-pointers. The Tigers led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and doubled up Moss with an 18-9 run in the second to lead 35-20 at halftime. It was 50-29 after three quarters.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We kind of went through the motions to start the game. We came out in the third quarter and played better. We’ve got to get better,” — Konawa head coach Gordon Garner.

Record: Konawa is 6-5; Moss 4-12.

NOTEWORTHY: Cade Carpenter tallied 15 points and Zach Lewis contributed 12 as Roff knocked off New Lima, 45-39, on Monday in the first round of the S.T.A.R. Tournament. Mike Anderson also nailed two big 3-pointers and finished with seven points for the Tigers. Landon Madkins tossed in a game-high 14 points, including two 3-pointers, for New Lima. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-3 advantage after one quarter and went on to a 20-11 halftime lead. The two teams were deadlocked at 28 at the end of the third. A 17-11 fourth quarter by Roff was the difference.

Team Records: Roff 14-3; New Lima 9-9.

NOTEWORTHY: Reid Wall scored 14 of his game-high 16 points in the first half as Byng knocked off host Seminole, 53-40, on Saturday. Dineh Bohan followed with nine, Joe Nemecek added seven and Jacob Birdshead supplied six for the Pirates, who withstood seven 3-pointers, including three each from Xavier Freeman and Ryan Tilley. Freeman paced the Chieftains with 15 points and Tilley had 11. Seminole had a 14-11 lead at the end of the first. But Byng went on a 17-10 run in the second to lead 28-24 at the half. The Pirates led 40-32 after the third and increased their advantage to 13 by game’s end. The Chieftains got as close as five in the fourth, but Byng hit free throws and executed down the stretch.

COACH’S QUOTE: “I thought we played really hard in a real tough place to play. We moved it (the ball) well and hit some big free throws down the stretch. After Seminole cut it to five (in the fourth quarter), Nemecek hit two free throws to push the lead back to seven and Capps later had an and-one. Reid Wall played really well. He had 14 points in the first half,” — Byng head coach Trent Miller.
