Ada Braves drop pair to Ardmore

Lone Grove — The Ada Braves American Legion Post 72 baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 7-4 and 3-1, to the Ardmore Cardinals Tuesday in Lone Grove.

The Braves, 5-8 on the season, were barely outhit 7-6 in the opener and had a 5-4 edge in total hits in the nightcap. The Cardinals improved to 8-7 after the sweep.

Game 1

Cardinals 7, Braves 4

Ardmore cranked out three homers — one each from Cade Carter (from Murray State College), Drake Harper (of Plainview) and Tanner Clark (of Silo) — and overcame three errors in earning the decision in the first game.

Woodrow Lankford, a Holdenville High School product, hit a solo home run in the second inning for Ada. Easton Elliott of Moss drove home three runs with a sacrifice fly in the second, along with a two-run single in the fourth. Tyler Miller of Varnum was the Braves’ only multiple hitter, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Lankford was 1-for-3 with the one RBI and a run scored, and Tucker Elliott went 1-for-3 and scored twice.

Harper and Clark each knocked in three runs for Ardmore.

Roff hurler Mike Anderson suffered the pitching loss, despite walking only two and striking out eight in six complete innings. All seven runs were earned off seven hits.

Starter Tyler Crenshaw of Sulphur got the pitching win for the Cardinals. He struck out three and walked one in five innings of work.

Ardmore scored four runs in the bottom of the first, forcing the Braves to play catch-up the entire contest.

Game 2

Cardinals 3, Braves 1

The Cardinals’ Scott Brinkley of Tushka gave up only five hits in seven complete innings. The lone Ada run was earned.

The Braves’ only tally didn’t occur until the sixth on Moss product Tucker Elliott’s sacrifice fly scoring Ada High standout Walker Whitworth, who hit a pinch-hit single earlier in the inning.
