Ada Braves get offense going

Bartlesville — The Ada Braves capped a good weekend of baseball with an 8-7 win over the host Bartlesville Doenges Ford Indians Sunday evening.

Earlier in the day, the Braves outlasted Bartlesville 18-12 in a game that featured a six-hour rain delay.

On Saturday, Bartlesville opened the four-game series with a 9-7 win before the Braves shut out the Indians 6-0 later that night.

Coach Travis Graham saw his club improve to 9-13 after winning three straight contests.

“I feel like we keep getting better every time out, and that’s all you can ask for,” Graham said.

Varnum High School product Tyler Miller led the Braves offense over the weekend, going 8-for-13 from the plate.

“He hit the ball hard every time and never struck out. He stepped up and did a really good job,” Graham said.

In the series finale, the Braves got consecutive hits from Miller, Scott Johnson, Zach Lewis (who blasted a double), Woodrow Lankford and Easton Elliott that produced four runs in the top of the first inning.

The Indians answered with three runs in the bottom of the second.

Shawn Treat drove in a run in the top of the third to give Ada a 5-3 lead.

Johnson hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Braves on top 8-3.

Bartlesville scratched for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to get within 8-6 and added a single run in the sixth before the Braves slammed the door.

Tristan Monroe struck out the final four batters he faced to earn the save for the Braves. Dennis Sims was the starter for the Post 72 squad.

During the Braves’ 18-12, nine-inning victory, Gage Allen earned the mound win. The locals scored a whopping 39 runs during the Bartlesville series.
