Two Ada wrestlers headed to OKC for state tournament

Duncan — —

Two Ada High School wrestlers – Danny Lamb and Royce Garvin - qualified for state as the Cougars placed eighth as a team at the Class 5A Regionals last weekend at Duncan High School.

Lamb, a junior, placed third at 182 pounds and Garvin, also a junior, finished fourth at 220 pounds as the pair earned spots in the state tournament, set to begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Oklahoma City’s State Fair Arena.

Lamb heads into the state tournament with a 22-10 record this season while Garvin brings in a 26-10 mark. Lamb will face Western Heights junior Harley Stanley (29-4) in the opening round while Garvin will square off with Deer Creek senior Austin Loomis (27-9).

The two-day tournament concludes on Saturday.

Ada had three other strong showings at regionals as freshman Levin Grimes took fifth at 160 pounds, sophomore Marwin Dickerson was sixth at heavyweight and senior Dalton Thompson ended up sixth at 195 pounds.

Only the top four placers from regionals advance to state.

As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
