Ada took advantage of a pair of McAlester errors and an ill-timed passed ball to score three times in the bottom of the second to go on top 3-1.
Simmer’s solo home run to lead off the third inning pushed the Ada lead to 4-1.
The Buffaloes scratched for an error-aided run in the top of the fourth, but that’s all the offense McAlester would muster off Simmer the rest of the game. He still didn’t make things easy.
Simmer hit two more batters and gave up a single in the top of the sixth inning, but a strikeout and another double play ended that threat. He pitched around a two-out single by Baugh in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Ada got its final run in the bottom of the sixth, when Dalton Wolf welcomed McAlester standout Dalton Wood (who had relieved starter Hyden to lead off the inning) to the mound by lacing a double to left-center field. Wolf advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a nice sacrifice bunt by Jake Boone.
Simmer’s big day at the plate paced an 11-hit Ada attack. Boone and Walker Whitworth added two hits apiece for the Cougars.
McAlester got seven of its 11 hits from its sixth through ninth hitters.
The Cougars hosted Seminole for Senior Night on Tuesday and will travel to Dickson at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
On Saturday, Ada travels to the Harrah Festival and will meet Cleveland at 1 p.m. and the host Panthers at 3 p.m.
