Ada — The Ada High School boys soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in a penalty-kick shootout to visiting Cache on Tuesday night in district play.
The two teams played to a 1-all draw through regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods before the match was settled on the penalty kicks, one on one with the goalkeepers.
The Cougars (4-4) took an early 1-0 advantage when Ruslon Hinson scored off a penalty kick about 15 minutes into the game. The penalty was set up when Tyler Degraw was fouled in the penalty area.
Cache then tied it up shortly before halftime off a breakaway.
“We created chances, but we were just unable to put one in the net to take the lead back,” said Ada head coach Tom Morrison. “The boys gave great effort, and I’m proud of them. We were disappointed with the result but understand we control our playoff hopes.”
Morrison praised the play of his midfielders James Stenson, Chase Lott, Hinson, Jeremiah Larry and Daniel Valles.
“They worked well and gave great effort,” Morrison said.
Ada’s next action will be a district contest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newcastle.
“We will go back to work and prepare to play Newcastle, the current leaders of our district,” said Morrison.
In Tuesday's night’s girls contest, Cache blanked the Lady Cougars 4-0.
