NOTEWORTHY: The Ada Cougars (No. 13 in Class 4A) snapped a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to knock off host Purcell 10-2 Tuesday night. Dalton Wolf was a workhorse for Ada, tossing six solid innings on the mound to pick up his third pitching win of the spring. He struck out five, walked one and didn’t allow an earned run. Wolf helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Jake Boone and Scott Johnson had two hits each for Ada, while Walker Whitworth and Micah Simmer drove in two runs apiece. Brent Webb had two of Purcell’s four hits.

COACHES QUOTE: “I’m happy with the way we played down the stretch. Dalton had a strong day on the mound. It took a little bit to get the bats rolling, but we continued to swing it well,” — Ada head coach Elliott Alberson.

NOTEWORTHY: Reid Wall scattered six hits in seven complete innings of pitching work as the Byng Pirates (No. 5 in Class 4A) held off host Plainview (No. 10 in Class 4A), 6-4, on Tuesday. Three of the four runs that Reid Wall surrendered were earned, as he walked four and struck out eight. Hunter Capps went 2-for-4 and scored a run as Byng compiled nine hits. Darian Davis was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored, while Gage Wall and Andrew Daniel were each 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Whitey Fortner also knocked in a pair of runs while going 1-for-4. Fortner’s RBI groundout, scoring Davis, led to a 1-all tie in the third inning. The Pirates scored their remaining five runs in the fourth, as Gage Wall, Daniel and Whitey Fortner each had run-scoring singles and Davis brought home a run off a sacrifice bunt.
