NOTEWORTHY: Taylor Barrett tossed in 14 points and Shania Bills finished with 10 as Stonewall upended Varnum, 58-42, on Tuesday in the first round of the STAR Tournament at Konawa. Tana Davis followed with nine points, including one 3-pointer, and Alexis Lambert finished with eight points, including one trey, and eight rebounds. Sarah Monday tossed in seven points and snatched five boards for the winners and Justice Dees recorded three steals to go with her four points. Karina Tarpey had a game-high 16 points for Varnum. The Lady Longhorns doubled up Varnum, 14-7, in the first quarter and cruised to a 26-14 halftime advantage. Stonewall led 41-28 after three quarters.

COACH’S QUOTE: “Jon does a really good job (coaching) at Varnum. They threw lots of different things at us tonight. We made several mistakes, but did lots of good things too. Our defense and balanced scoring were very big tonight,” — Stonewall head coach Brian Davis.
