Ada Braves win one and lose one Tuesday against Bulls and Ambassadors

Bethany — Zach Lewis hit a pair of two-run doubles as the Ada Braves Post 72 American Legion baseball squad rallied to beat the Bethany Bulls, 6-4 on Tuesday in action at Southern Nazarene University.

Earlier in the day, the Ambassadors knocked off the Ada Braves, 5-3.

Lewis, who played at Roff High School, had a 5-for-6 day, going 3-for-3 with one RBI against the Ambassadors and going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in against the Bulls.

Despite collecting just three hits against the Bethany Bulls, Ada earned the win. Tristan Monroe had the other hit in, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Teammate Easton Elliott, batting in the leadoff spot for the Braves, drew three walks and scored twice.

“We had some errors, but did a good job overcoming them. We had some good AB’s (at bats),” said Braves’ head coach Travis Graham. “Zach Lewis’ double down the line scored two runs in the seventh. Zach only got out once the whole day.”

Bethany jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, before Ada rallied with three in the third. An error led to Tristan Monroe scoring off a ball hit by Scott Johnson and Lewis hit his first two-run double to tie it at 3 in the top of the third.

The Braves used five pitchers in the game. Their second reliever Gage Allen was credited with the win while Tucker Elliott picked up the save.

In the game against the Ambassadors, Ada fell victim to four errors.

“Defensively, it was unlike us, with the four errors,” Graham said. “We left nine guys on the bases and had the bases loaded once and couldn’t score. We ran ourselves out of some big innings.”

Collecting multiple hits for the Braves was Braden Fortner, 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Johnson, also going 2-for-4. Walker Whitworth went 1-for-3 with one RBI and he scored once for Ada.
