Tulsa — Cougars tops in Tulsa
TULSA — Behind three first-place finishes, the Ada High School boys’ tennis team captured a Class 4A Regional championship on Tuesday at the Grand Racket Club in Tulsa.
The Cougars swept to titles at No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles and earned a No. 2 Singles crown.
At No. 2 Singles, Ada’s Charlie Hansen rolled to an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Okmulgee’s Kris Mayfield for the championship.
Daniel Carpenter and Chad Whittington claimed the No. 1 Doubles title for the Cougars with a three-set 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over the Oologah team of Rodgers and Williams.
At No. 2 Doubles, the Ada combination of Hunter Frazier and Memo Martin picked up a 6-2, 6-2 decision over the Sperry team of Doyle and Short in the regional finals.
The Cougars’ Zack Whelchel dropped his finals match to Poteau’s Skylar Abbot, who won by a 6-4, 6-3 score.
Ada will participate in the Class 4A state tennis tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
