NOTEWORTHY: The Byng Lady Pirates had their best showing of the year and it almost resulted in a trip to the Class 4A State Tournament. The top seven teams at each regional earn state berths and Byng finished eighth, just behind No. 7 Anadarko.

COACHES QUOTE: “All five girls ran their best time of the season, so I was proud of their effort. They beat a few teams who had finished ahead of us in earlier meets,” — Byng head coach Clint McGaha.

NOTEWORTHY: The Byng Pirates got healthy just in the nick of time to post a strong showing at the 4A Regional Cross-Country meet in Norman. Sam Sweet was runner-up in the regional race with a time of 17:11, just five seconds off the championship mark set by Madill’s Jose Delacruz (17:06). Dusty Delozier was 15th in 17:59. Both Sweet and Delozier were All-Region runners.

NOTEWORTHY: The Ada Lady Cougars punched their ticket to the Class 5A State Tournament with a fifth-place showing at the regional in Norman. Sophomore Grace Pottebaum continued her strong 2013 campaign with a third-place showing with a time of 12:49. Taylor Hodges was next in the 24th spot in 13:39.

NOTEWORTHY: Ada junior Giovanni Gutierrez earned a trip to Saturday’s 5A State Tournament as an individual after finishing 38th at the regional meet in a time of 18:40. Gutierrez will run at 2:45 p.m. at the state meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
