NOTEWORTHY: Mike Anderson allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out four over three innings and C.J. Johnson collected three hits as Roff ripped Vanoss, 12-0, in a four-inning contest on Monday. Anderson got the pitching win as Andres Torres pitched the fourth in relief. Johnson went 3-for-3 from the plate with a double, four runs batted in and a run scored. The Tigers — ranked No. 4 in Class A — jumped on Vanoss with 10 first-inning runs in cruising to the win.

Record: Roff is 14-6

NOTEWORTHY: Phylisha Chamberlain tossed a three-inning, one hit shutout and Paige Vick collected three hits as Tupelo shut out host Vanoss, 12-0, on Monday. Chamberlain surrendered just one walk and three strikeouts in raising her season record to 7-11. She also went 2-for-2 from the plate with a double, one RBI and three runs scored. Vick went 3-for-3, drove home three runs and scored once. Brittany Sanders was 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and Keara Bourland was 1-for-2 and scored a run. After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Tigers scored three times in the second inning and picked up nine runs in the third.

Record: Tupelo is 7-11

  • Cougs continue to win Ada stretches win streak to seven

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
