Experienced Latta boys push past Byng

Latta — The Latta Panthers are battle-tested, while many players on the Byng boys roster were experiencing their first real battle when the two local rivals squared off Friday night inside the Bill Koller Field House.

Byng's young guns stayed close for nearly three quarters before Latta's vets pulled away for a 47-32 win. The Byng boys fell to 1-1 while Latta (No. 3 in Class 2A) stayed unabated at 5-0.

"I thought our veteran leadership showed down the stretch. We kept our poise," Latta head coach Donnie Husband said following the physical affair. "You had good athletes on the floor on both sides. I thought Byng played extremely well and extremely hard. They're going to get a whole lot better."
