Ada — Micah Simmer went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and recorded the pitching victory as the 16h-ranked Ada Cougars came from behind to upset No. 11 Plainview, 5-4, on Tuesday night.
Simmer actually was part of the game-winning play when he singled with two outs. An error in the outfield enabled Scott Johnson, who singled with one earlier in the inning, score off an error in walk-off fashion.
Johnson, like Simmer, went 2-for-4 with one run batted in and two runs scored in the contest as Ada and Plainview each finished with seven hits.
On the mound, Simmer pitched all seven innings, allowing just three earned runs and no walks while striking out four.
The Cougars forced a 1-all tie in the bottom of the third when Dalton Wolf’s RBI groundout scored Clayton Henry.
Plainview responded with two runs in the fourth and added another score in the fifth for a 4-1 advantage.
However, Ada forced a deadlock once again with a three-run sixth, highlighted by a Johnson RBI double and Reid Kinder run-scoring single. The other Cougar score came when Walker Whitworth drove in a run after reaching safely on an error.
Kinder finished the game 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Cougars’ next action is Friday at home against Holdenville at 4 p.m.
