NOTEWORTHY: The Vanoss girls overcame a good start by Macomb standout Shania Hayes and held the Lady Hornets to just 13 second-half points in a 50-38 win in the first round of the Earlsboro Tournament on Thursday. Vanoss led just 17-15 after the first quarter and 31-25 at the break before scoring as many points in the third period as the entire Macomb squad had in the second half. Taylor Smith hit a pair of 3-pointers and led Vanoss with 15 points, while Tori Prince followed close behind with 14. Hayes would score a game-high 19 points in a losing effort for Macomb. Vanoss attempted 25 free throws in the contest but hit just 12.

COACHES QUOTE: “We came out with good intensity after a long break. We weren’t shooting the ball very well, but we did what we had to do to get to the free-throw line. After a long break, you never know how well you’re going to come out, but our intensity was really good.” — Vanoss head coach Dillon Snow.

NOTEWORTHY: The Roff Lady Tigers raced to a 34-18 halftime lead and coasted past Bowlegs 49-41 in the first round of the 2014 Moss Invitational Thursday afternoon. Roff used its familiar one-two punch of Breecia Crawford and Lauren Trimmer to knock off the Lady Bison. Crawford finished with a game-high 21 points while Trimmer sank a pair of 3-pointers and followed with 18. Malayja White scored 11 to lead a balanced Bowlegs attack while Destiny Hawes contributed 10.
