The Ada News

Ada —

Entries are being accepted for the 2012 Chickasaw Nation “Anoli” Creative Writing contest until Feb. 28.  “Anoli” is a Chickasaw word meaning “to tell.”

Chickasaw student writers in grades 6 through 12 and young adults through age 24 are encouraged to enter up to three written works in one or more categories – poetry, short story and essay.

The topic for this year’s creative writing contest is “Chickasaw People:  the Spirit of a Nation.”

Entries should reflect what defines the spirit of the Chickasaw people and what creates and sustains the spirit of a nation.

Winners receive cash prizes and medals.

All works submitted must be original and will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on artistic form, creativity, how well the work relates to the topic and literary expression within each age division.

Division I includes grades six – eight, division II includes grades nine – 12 and the third division includes young adults through age 24 regardless of education level or enrollment.

The contest is free and open to enrolled citizens of the Chickasaw Nation. Proof of Chickasaw citizenship is required.

Entries can be delivered to the division’s office at 201 N. Broadway in Ada, Okla. or mailed to Chickasaw Nation Division of Arts and Humanities, P.O. Box 1548, Ada, Okla. 74821.
