Ada —

Aaron and Christy Millican always wanted to get married on a triple-digit date, like 8-8-08 or 7-7-07.

So when the Millicans found out that they had a chance to get married on Dec. 12, 2012, they knew they had to sign up.

“Time was running out,” Christy said. “I thought, ‘We’re not going to get married on 13-13-13.’”

The Millicans were among 12 lucky winners in South Central Oklahoma Radio Enterprises’ “12 Weddings on 12-12-12” contest in which area couples posted videos at www.12weddings.com.

The videos came from people who were planning to get married for the first time as well as from long-married couples who wanted to renew their vows. People chose the winning couples by voting for them on the contest website.

KTLS announcer Candy Weddle came up with the idea for the contest earlier this year.

“Radio has always been known for unique promotions,” she said in a news release. “We just wanted to take it to the next level and do something truly memorable.”

SCORE radio stations and other sponsors provided the winning couples with wedding gowns, tuxedoes and a reception at the Chickasaw Community Center. In addition, participating couples had a chance to win a Las Vegas honeymoon.

Newly married Roff residents Charity and Michael McCartney won the honeymoon and will take their trip soon after the wedding, according to the news release.

Wedding day

Shortly before noon Wednesday, the winning couples and their families flocked to McSwain Theatre for a mass wedding. The event was closed to the public, but it was broadcast on radio stations KADA, KYKC, KTLS and KXFC.

Streaming video of the event is available at www.kadaradio.net and kxfcradio.com/apps.

A few minutes before the ceremony, the couples lined the stage as traditional wedding music filled the air. Weddle acted as the master of ceremonies, telling the couples not to worry.
