Local dancers to perform Nutcracker with OKC Ballet

Ada — Several local dancers have been faithfully rehearsing with the Oklahoma City Ballet for the production of Tchaikovsy’s The Nutcrackerwhich will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center, located on the campus of East Central University. This holiday classic is being brought to the Ada community by the Ada Arts Council in conjunction with ECU.

Tickets are $25 and may be purchased online at tickets.ecok.edu or by calling 580-559-5751; at Gem Jewelers, located at 101 W. Main, or at the box office the night of the show. All seats are general admission and patrons are being urged to purchase tickets in advance.

Local dance instructor Cara Crawford has been serving as rehearsal assistant to the OKC Ballet with additional help from Richard Rambo at her studio, Central Oklahoma Dance Center.  For many this will be their first experience dancing with a professional ballet company.

Crawford graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor of fine arts degree in ballet pedagogy.

Afterward, she returned home to Ada in order to give back to the community her love of dance. She began a dance company, Cara’s Kids, which travels across the United States performing and studying dance.

Many of Crawford’s students have continued to pursue their dance careers after graduation, not only in Ada but in Hollywood, New York and Chicago.

In addition to her success with Cara’s Kids, Crawford choreographed Lowak Shop-pala which featured original music created by award-winning composer Jerod Tate. The premiere performance included the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, the Chickasaw Children’s Chorus, the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe and contemporary dancers from the Central Oklahoma Dance Center.

Along with its loyal members, there are several sponsors of the Ada Arts Council who have helped bring The Nutcracker to Ada including Pepsi Cola, Orscheln Farm and Ranch Supply, the Cowboy Church and Preacher Dan McGehee, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Chickasaw Nation. Crystal Revels, of Ada, provided the headshots for the local dancers and will provide pictures of the performance. For information about the photos, email Revels at crevels23@yahoo.com.

ECU’s Fine Arts Season is sponsored by the ECU Foundation, Inc., East Central Credit Union, Citizens Bank, Blue Moon Café, Bob’s BBQ, Valley View Regional Hospital and the ECU Bookstore.

Season sponsors for the Oklahoma City Ballet are the E.L & Thelma Gaylord Foundation, American Fidelity Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, Chesapeake Energy, Devon Energy, Allied Arts, Isola Bella, Bone & Joint Hospital and the National Endowment for the Arts.
