Four arrested after Ada stabbing

Ada — A Wewoka teen and three juveniles were arrested after an Ada man was stabbed Monday evening.

Arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing was 18-year-old Cody Gaye Yarby of Wewoka. Police responded to the incident in the 600 block of W. 12th Street shortly before 11 p.m. Witnesses to the stabbing said four males fled the scene in a white car prior to police arrival. Police found the victim, 19-year-old Bodhi Chance Starns of Ada, lying on the ground.

“I saw a male subject later identified as (Bodhi) Starns lying in the front yard with a stab wound to the lower abdominal area,” Ada Police Officer Jason Mosley wrote in a report. “(Starns) was awake and talking as Mercy EMS and Ada firemen arrived to treat him.”

Police searched city streets, focusing on Ada’s northwest side, for the suspect vehicle. Police located the vehicle in the 700 block of W. Ninth and conducted a traffic stop.

“We got all four suspects out of the vehicle and placed them under investigative detention,” Officer Jaron Ballagh wrote in a report. “While the suspects were getting out of the vehicle, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the car. I observed a Tvarski Vodka bottle on the passenger-side floorboard and two Barton Gin bottles on the back floorboard, along with metal knuckles. All suspects were under 21 years of age.”

Police also found marijuana, a hunting knife on the dashboard and a pocket knife under the driver’s side seat.

“After closer inspection of the pocket knife, I could see what appeared to be blood on the serrated edges,” Mosley wrote.

Mosley spoke with the victim Starns at Mercy Hospital Ada where he was treated for the non life-threatening stab wound.

“I asked (Starns) what happened and he stated that (the three juveniles) and some guy he did not know came to the residence he was at,” Mosley wrote. “(Starns) stated that the guy he did not know — Yarby — wanted to shake his hand and when he went to shake his hand, the guy stabbed him. I asked him again if the three that he did know stabbed him and again he stated it was the guy he did not know.”

Yarby was given a sobriety test.

“On the walk and turn test (Yarby) missed heal-to-toe and used his arms for balance,” Ballagh said.

Yarby was given a breathalyzer test at the police station in which he allegedly blew a 0.04 BrAC. There is a zero-tolerance policy for any alcohol amount for persons under 21 years of age.

Yarby was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, transporting an open container, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of alcohol and minor in possession of alcohol. The three juveniles were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of an intoxicating substance by person under 21 and possession of an illegal weapon. All suspects were taken to Pontotoc County Justice Center.
