Hit and run suspect charged

Ada — An Ada man arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident earlier this month was charged with a felony Wednesday.

East Central University women’s basketball coach Kent Wayne Franz, 50, was charged in Pontotoc County District Court with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

The victim, Angela Wilburn, 49, remains hospitalized at OU Medical Center, recovering from numerous injuries which police listed as a shattered pelvis, right ankle fracture, vertebrae fracture, internal injuries, a blood clot in the brain and a heart attack.

A spokesperson for OU Medical Center said Wilburn has upgraded to good condition since she was taken there by medical helicopter in serious condition.

Wilburn was found unconscious in the 2800 block of Arlington at 9:42 p.m. Sept. 9. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Ada before being transferred to OU Medical Center.

Police said Franz allegedly left the scene. On Sept. 10, Franz turned himself in to police in connection with the hit-and-run.

Franz was arrested and later freed on $10,000 bail.
