Ada — A woman hit by a pickup and left on the side of the road Sept. 9 is improving, according to hospital officials.

A spokesperson with OU Medical Center said 49-year-old Angela Wilburn has been upgraded from serious condition to fair condition. Wilburn was found unconscious in the 2800 block of Arlington at 9:42 p.m. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Ada before being transferred to OU Medical Center. Ada Police Officer Kathy Unbewust said Wilburn’s injuries included a shattered pelvis, right ankle fracture, vertebrae fracture, internal injuries, a blood clot in the brain and a heart attack.

Police said the driver of the vehicle allegedly left the scene. On Sept. 10, East Central University women’s basketball coach Kent Wayne Franz, 50, Ada, turned himself in to police in connection with the alleged hit-and-run by auto.

Franz then was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident causing great bodily harm. He was taken to the Pontotoc County Justice Center where he was later freed on $10,000 bail.

Pontotoc County Assistant District Attorney Jim Tillison said he is reviewing the case to determine what charges, if any, will be filed against Franz.
