Miller pleads guilty to sex charges; sentenced to prison

Pauls Valley — Former Oklahoma City Thunder announcer Jim Miller pleaded guilty to child sex charges Monday and is on his way to prison.

James Alan “Jim” Miller, 44, of Ada, appeared in Garvin County District Court to enter a plea deal which included felony charges in Pontotoc, Garvin and Oklahoma counties. Miller was charged with six counts of child sexual abuse in Pontotoc County, two counts of lewd molestation in Garvin County and two counts of indecent or lewd acts with a child under age 16 in Oklahoma County.

Miller was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 15 years suspended on each Pontotoc County charge. He was sentenced to 30 years on each count in Oklahoma County with 20 years suspended on each. In Garvin County, Miller was sentenced to 20 years on each count, with nine years suspended each. Under the agreement, Miller's sentences will run concurrently. All together, he must serve 85 percent of 11 years before being eligible for parole, Pontotoc County Assistant District Attorney Jim Tillison said.

Miller wept after the plea as he said goodbye to tearful family members who were in attendance in the courtroom. He was taken into custody soon after. Tillison said the victims were happy they did not have to testify and were reluctant to see Miller go to prison.

“We had a long discussion with (the victims),” Tillison said. “They understood the plea and were in agreement to resolving the case this way.”

Miller was formally charged in Oklahoma County with lewd acts committed against a boy, 8, who said Miller masturbated in front of him while Miller watched pornography on a computer. Pontotoc County officials opened a case after two women alleged Miller committed the same act in front of them when he was a resident of the county about nine years ago. He was arrested in Oklahoma County in May 2012 after a Harrah Department of Human Services investigation into allegations he committed three lewd acts in front of the boy and the two girls.

The charges arising in Pontotoc County allege Miller exposed himself and masturbated in front of two girls from Jan. 1, 2000, to Jan. 1, 2007. Miller resided in Pontotoc County during those dates. He later moved to Harrah where he was a tennis coach at Harrah High School.

It is alleged Miller masturbated in front of the girls and asked both of the girls to “touch his penis.”

According to the arrest warrant, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents seized a computer from Miller’s home which contained hundreds of pornographic images.
