ECU athlete enters plea

Ada —

An East Central University football player arrested for allegedly selling marijuana entered a plea in district court and will receive probation.

Armonty Bryant, 22, Ada, pleaded no contest Thursday to selling marijuana within 2,000 of a school (ECU) and was given a five-year deferred sentence. Court officials said Bryant was charged with a felony, but not convicted. If he follows the terms of his probation — from Oct. 18, 2012  to Oct. 18, 2017  — he will be able to have the felony charge expunged from his record.

Bryant allegedly sold the drug to an undercover operative on two separate occasions, according to the Ada Police Department Narcotics Squad. Police indicate in court records that Bryant sold $20 worth of marijuana to the operative Sept. 12, 2012, and the same amount again Sept. 13, 2012, both times in a parking lot at ECU.

Bryant was suspended indefinitely by the university and will not play in Saturday’s contest against Ouachita Baptist.
