Toddler drowns in pool

The Ada News

Ada —

A 2-year-old boy who disappeared Thursday afternoon apparently drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool, according to Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian.

Christian declined to release the boy’s name because his relatives had not been notified yet.

The boy and his grandmother were at a neighbor’s house in the Woodbrook housing addition north of Ada, and the boy was playing on the front porch while his grandmother was inside washing dishes, Christian said. When the grandmother went outside, her grandson had disappeared.

The grandmother contacted her neighbors, who searched for the boy for about 30 minutes before calling the Lighthorse Police Department, Christian said. The tribal police department contacted the sheriff’s office, which requested assistance from the Byng and the Homer/Lovelady Fire Departments.

After they arrived on the scene, authorities started their search. Within 25 minutes, the boy’s body was found in a neighbor’s swimming pool about 150 yards away from where he was last seen.

Authorities performed CPR on the boy before taking him to Valley View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Christian said the boy apparently drowned, but the case is still under investigation. He added that the boy’s body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City for an investigation, which is standard procedure.
