Ada —

A pedestrian was injured after he was hit by a car while crossing a city street Monday.

The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of 17th and Broadway. Ada Police Officer Brian Engel said 67-year-old Jerry Lynn Sullivan was walking west on 17th when, as he crossed Broadway in a crosswalk, was hit by a Hyundai Sonata driven south on Broadway by 21-year-old Elizabeth Sanford of Holdenville.

Police said Sanford was distracted by something in the vehicle and did not see Sullivan until it was too late. Sullivan was dragged approximately 12 feet from the point of impact. He was taken by Valley View EMS to Valley View Regional Hospital to be treated for a large laceration on his head and several abrasions on the rest of his body. Engel said Sanford was cited for failure to yield right-of-way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Sanford was not injured, police said.
