Ada — The Ada Police Department, responding to a warrant from District Judge Steven Kessinger, arrested city employee Vincent Jason Smeltz, 42, Tuesday morning on suspicion of using a computer system to inflict fear of injury or death to one of its police officers.
Smeltz posted his bond, which had been set at $5,000 and was released from Pontotoc County Justice Center the same day.
Official charges are pending but will center on Facebook threats alledgedly made by Smeltz the day after his wife Laura Elizabeth Smeltz, 26, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication Thursday night (April 25).
Smeltz, according to police officer Brad Rhoads, was asked to leave the scene 21 different times before Smeltz complied. Even then, Rhoads said, Smeltz followed him to the police station.
