Fittstown boy dies in wreck near Tushka

Ada —

A 6-year-old Fittstown boy was killed last week in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 69.

Kalyn Scott-Lang was one of three people who died when the SUV he was riding in collided with a tour bus Friday morning on US 69 in Atoka County, according to the Tushka Police Department. The SUV driver, 52-year-old Carol S. Lang of Atoka, and her passenger Blake A. Lang, 4, of Atoka, were also killed in the wreck.

Carol Lang lost control of her SUV and struck a tour bus at Boggy Depot Road and US 69, according to the police department. The SUV traveled north after striking the tour bus, rolled over and slid about 20 feet before it came to rest about 80 feet north of the point of impact.

The tour bus traveled about 60 feet north of the impact, and the back tire skidded about 30 feet after the collision.

The bus driver, 27-year-old Steve M. Schmitz of Gainesville, Texas, told police that a semitruck had stopped in the inner southbound lane on U.S. 69, just north of the light. Schmitz said he saw the SUV come out from behind the semi, enter his lane and spin toward the bus.

Two of Lang’s passengers — 9-year-old Kathrine G. Lang and 4-year-old Danni A. Lang, both of Fittstown — were injured in the collision. Both girls were taken to the Atoka hospital for treatment.

Neither Schmitz nor his passengers were hurt.
