Pontotoc County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to have the Southern Oklahoma Development Association (SODA) apply for a $150,000 grant, which, if approved, will give each commissioner $47,000 worth of road improvement monies to help the road budgets in each of the three districts.
The funding for the block grants would come from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce as part of its Community Development Block Grant program.
Here are the road plans for which assistance is being sought from each of the districts:
District 1, Commissioner Gary Starns: Four miles on CR 1560 and 3670 for chip and sealing. The county will put up a $33,288 cash match with $41,536 in-kind dollars.
District 2, Commissioner Randy Floyd: Eight miles of county road in Portland Park $33,875 cash match with $16.030.95 in-kind dollars.
District 3, Commissioner Justin Roberts: Three miles road chip and seal south on CR 3570, CR 1590, west one mile on CR 1590 to Highway 995, one mile on CR 1590, stopping at intersection CR 1590 and CR 3590: Cash match, $53,711.70 with $39,086.90 in-kind dollars.
It leaves about $9,000, which SODA uses for administrative costs, Starns said.
The commissioners waited until the end of the meeting to go through more than 50 pages of recommendations from the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma. The commissioners, along with Pontotoc Court Clerk Pam Walker, thumbed through the thick lists, taking the advice of ACCO on some changes and preferring what’s already in place on others.
The commission also agreed to allow Seaway Crude Pipeline Company’s request for county road crossings and a temporary driveway, as well as documentation for financial responsibility for any damages. The commissioners agreed but they also wanted it in writing that the company would pay for any damages, once they provided that documentation.
Both sides agreed.
Deresa Gray was unanimously appointed to serve as Pontotoc County commissioners’ representative to the Big Five Board of Directors.
