Woman crashes into 'dummy' police car

Ada — An Ada woman was arrested after she allegedly crashed into the Ada police 'dummy' car Saturday.

The wreck occurred just before 5 p.m.  in the 400 block of east Richardson Loop according to a report by Ada Police Sergeant Dewayne Campbell. The woman crashed into a patrol vehicle Ada police often park on the side of the road with a mannequin inside to deter speeders and prevent wrecks.

Campbell said he drove up on the wreck and spoke with Debra Gayle Wisdom.

"I immediately detected that Wisdom was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol," Campbell said. "Upon making contact with Wisdom I asked her if she was OK and she didn't even seem to know what I was talking about. She just kept saying something about needing to get to Homer so she could watch a T-ball game."

Campbell said after getting out of the vehicle she was driving, Wisdom, 49, was staggering about. He said for her safety, he did not perform a sobriety test, but did later give her a breathalyzer test which she registered 0.00 Br.AC. However, police said while conducting an inventory of Wisdom's vehicle, they did locate several different types of pills loose in a purse, allegedly belonging to Wisdom.

Wisdom was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Ada Police Assistant Chief Jeff Crosby said most of the damage was to the patrol vehicle's wheel, but authorities wouldn't know the extent of the damage until a mechanic checks it for an estimate. Crosby said Wisdom does have auto insurance to pay for damages.
