Oklahoma’s nursing home residents have a new tool to protect themselves against abuse or neglect.
Senate Bill 587 allows nursing home residents to install video cameras or audio equipment in their private room if the resident or their legal representative covers the cost. Under the new law, nursing homes must tell residents — including people who may be moving into the facility — that they can have the equipment in their rooms.
The law bars nursing homes from retaliating against current or prospective residents who want to install the equipment in their rooms.
