No Saturday delivery

Ada —

The U.S. Postal Service’s decision to eliminate weekend delivery will affect businesses that send out bills and receive payments in the mail, said Mellanie Jones, marketing director for Rolling Hills Hospital in Ada.

“Like any other business, it’s about receiving payment for services rendered,” she said in a phone interview. “So on weekends, we’ll have to wait.”

Jones said the hospital pays its employees on Fridays, so staffers who receive their paychecks in the mail will have to wait until Monday to get their checks.

The Postal Service announced Wednesday that it was eliminating Saturday mail service as a cost-saving measure. Carriers will no longer deliver mail to homes and businesses on Saturdays starting Aug. 5, but they will still deliver mail to post office boxes.

The agency will continue delivering packages six days a week, and post offices that are now open on Saturday will still have Saturday hours.

The end of Saturday delivery will probably not affect the way Valley View Regional Hospital does business, said CEO Kent Rogers.

“From a business perspective, we don’t expect that this will be difficult for us to accommodate,” he said.

Rogers said the change will affect patients, who receive get-well cards through the mail.
