Wreck victim remains critical

Ada — A victim of a deadly car wreck Monday remains in intensive care and Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released further details of the wreck.

Melissa F. Carpenter, 29, of Sulphur, a passenger in one of the vehicles involved, is in critical condition at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The wreck occurred at 11:15 p.m. Monday on the Chickasaw Turnpike north of Roff. Killed in the wreck were Marsha D. Haines, 33, Ada, and Quentin D. Fields, 25, Roff.

OHP said Haines was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu west on the turnpike when she crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis driven east by Fields.

Haines died at the scene, according to OHP. Fields was pinned inside the Mercury for 20 minutes before being freed by firefighters. He was taken by Eagle Med to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was pronounced dead.

Carpenter, a passenger in the Mercury, was thrown from the wreckage during the impact. She was taken by Air Evac to OU Medical Center with head, trunk internal, trunk external, arm and leg injuries. OHP said the crash remains under investigation.
