Man arrested for alleged arson on 14th Street

Ada — An Ada man was arrested Thursday for allegedly setting fire to a house.

Arrested was 51-year-old William Madbull of Ada. The fire occurred at a house in the 200 block of E. 14th Street just before 7 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered thick, black smoke billowing from the structure. Flames were jutting from side windows and fire was also in the attic. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vacant house was a total loss. A woman reported to authorities she saw a man run from the house just prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Later Thursday, Ada police officer Brian Tomsovic located Madbull walking along north Oak Street.

“I pulled alongside Madbull and asked to speak with him,” Tomsovic wrote in a report. “I found Madbull to be disheveled, dirty and nervous. He smelled of smoke.”

Tomsovic said he encountered Madbull earlier that morning prior to the fire sleeping on a bench outside a grocery store. Madbull told Tomsovic he was waiting for a local homeless person organization to open. Tomsovic, after getting the description, believed Madbull was the man seen running from the house fire.

“I told Madbull that he had been seen leaving the scene of a house fire on 14th Street and he said that people lied about him all the time,” Tomsovic wrote. “I asked him who lied about him and he said people who were trying to frame him.”

Madbull reportedly admitted to being on 14th but said someone else set the fire. He was arrested on suspicion of arson, burglary and endangering the lives of emergency personnel. He is being held on $100,000 bond and is expected in court April 9.
