Konawa woman dies in crash

Ada — A Konawa woman was killed Thursday night when the car she was riding in was struck by a pickup truck on State Highway 9.

Debra Tiger, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tiger was riding in a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Konawa resident Jennifer Tiger, who was northbound on SH 9A in Seminole County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Wewoka resident Derrick Long was westbound on County Road EW 139 in a pickup truck, failed to obey a stop sign and struck the passenger’s-side door of Tiger’s vehicle.

Long was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Jennifer Tiger was taken to Integris Seminole Medical Center in Seminole where she was listed in stable condition with internal trunk and arm injuries.

Three children riding in Jennifer Tiger’s car were hurt. A 2-year-old child was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City in critical condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

A 5-year-old child was taken to Integris and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital with internal trunk injuries, according to the OHP. A 4-year-old child was taken to Integris and was listed in stable condition with internal trunk injuries.

Both vehicles were equipped with seat belts, which were in use. The OHP reported that Long appeared to be impaired from drinking at the time of the crash.
