Stonewall School names Teacher of the Year

Stonewall —

Stonewall School has named Donna Cox as Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013. For the past two years, Cox has taught K-4th physical education, coached K-4th basketball and adaptive physical education at Stonewall School. Some of her student highlights were participating  in Hoops for Heart and raising $,3000 for research and education, participating in the Elks Hoop Shoot and coaching the Special Olympics  athletes.  

Cox also organized a coin drive in order to raise money for the Stonewall Special Olympics state qualifier to attend the state Special Olympics.

Cox received her bachelor of science degree in K-12 physical education, health, recreation and dance from Texas Women’s University. She received her master's degree in secondary education from East Central University.

Prior teaching positions include Ada Public  Schools and East Central University.  In addition to volunteering and coaching for the Special Olympics, Cox is also a Red Cross volunteer.   

“I contribute my success as a teacher to hard work, dedication, and love of children." Cox said. 

Also named as Stonewall High School Teacher of the Year was Sheryl Fortner and McLish Teacher of the Year Shayna Stone.
