When Glen Childers was young, he constantly took his brother’s toys apart to see how they worked.
Childers’ natural curiosity followed him from his childhood through his adult life, said his brother, Don.
“I couldn’t keep a toy in the house because when I got one that was unusual, he’d take it apart and see how it worked,” Don said. “He just had a natural inquisitive nature about how things worked, and that kind of fit the mold of being an architect. An architect is curious about things.”
Don said that curiosity may have prompted his brother to pursue a career in architecture, which eventually led him to launch the Ada-based firm Glen Childers Architect in the late 1970s.
Childers’ family and friends shared their memories of him on Monday, following his death from heart failure at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 76.
