The Ada News
A 79-year-old man died after falling into Konawa Lake on Monday, but it was not immediately clear whether he drowned or suffered a fatal heart attack.
Ada resident Jerry Duncan and his friend, 74-year-old Glen Griffin of Ada, were out on the lake in a boat Monday afternoon, Seminole County Sheriff Shannon Smith said Tuesday. Griffin was fishing from the back of the boat and Duncan was in front where he was working on the trolling motor.
Griffin heard a commotion, turned around and saw Duncan fall off the boat. Griffin tried to pull Duncan back onto the boat by himself but was unsuccessful, and other fishermen helped him get Duncan out of the water.
Someone had already called 911 for assistance, and the group headed back to the boat ramp on East South Street, Smith said. The Konawa Police Department and an EMS crew responded to the scene until Smith arrived.
An ambulance took Duncan to Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada where he was later pronounced dead.
Smith said a medical examiner in Oklahoma City will determine the cause of death.
