Each year People’s Electric Cooperative (PEC) full-time employees are asked to cast ballots for two fellow employees who consistently demonstrate excellence in his or her position and are most deserving of Employee of the Year recognition. The identities of the honorees are kept secret until they are revealed at the annual Employee Awards Presentation. The 2012 Employees of the Year are Debbie Christian in PEC’s Administrative Services Division and Heath Traylor from the Operations Division.
Hard working and willing to help anyone are just a few qualities which describe PEC’s Administration Employee of the Year, Debbie Christian. For those who know her, it comes as no surprise that Christian was presented this same award in 1998 and in 2007.
“I’m very honored that the employees have chosen me for this award when there are so many other great employees from which to choose,” she said.
A few years following her graduation from Byng High School, Christian started at PEC in 1972. She is now the vice-president of accounting. She supervises and directs all functions of the accounting department which includes payroll, accounts payable, investment funds, budgeting and work order cost reporting.
“Working at PEC has been great. There is always something new and challenging to accomplish,” Christian said.
Christian completed her first bachelor of science degree at East Central University (ECU), Ada, in 1972. She attained her second degree in accounting from ECU in 2000, and her CPA designation shortly afterwards in 2003 while continuing her full-time capacities at PEC.
She lives in Byng with her husband Jerry. Their immediate family includes their two grown daughters, Jerica Reed (and husband Thomas) and Dara Christian. She stays busy by crafting, reading, gardening and spending time with her grandsons, Dylan and Cody Reed.
The opportunity to help people is one of the many things that PEC’s Operations Division Employee of the Year, Heath Traylor, enjoys about his occupation. According to Billy Huffman, PEC’s Manager of Distribution Services, “Heath is a hardworking, dedicated, and committed individual to his construction and maintenance tasks and PEC in general. He truly takes pride in his work and is genuinely concerned about providing the best customer service in the field.”
When Traylor started at PEC in 2008, he brought with him a diverse background in HVAC, cabinetry and the natural gas industry. He was hired by the cooperative as a Construction Technician I and was promoted to Construction Technician II in 2009. In 2010, he became a line technician and also moved from the general construction crew to the underground area. He completed his apprenticeship in April of 2012 and is now a senior line technician.
Traylor was very grateful to have received the award. “There are a lot of guys I work with who deserve the award as much as anyone,” he said. A 1995 graduate of Allen High School, Traylor lives in Ada with his wife Desiree. They have one daughter, Jenna. He enjoys hunting and fishing.
