Smeltz arrested again; more alleged threats

Ada —

A former Ada firefighter was arrested for the second time Wednesday after allegedly posting more threatening and possibly libelous statements on  Facebook concerning Ada Police Officer Brad Rhoads and other members of the department.

Police arrested former Ada firefighter Jason Smeltz Wednesday after his name appeared on Facebook with threatening and allegedly libelous statements about Rhoads, APD Detective Captain Tommy Cosper and the police department in general.

Smeltz was first arrested April 30 for similar alleged threats and harassment evolving from a traffic stop in which Smeltz is said to have intervened without authorization.

Smeltz has been upset with Ada police since April 24, when Officer Rhoads pulled over two women, one of them Smeltz’s wife, who was a passenger in a car. The other woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Mrs. Smeltz was also arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. Smeltz has maintained his wife was not legally intoxicated and therefore should not have been  arrested.

On the night Smeltz’s wife got arrested Officer Rhoads allegedly instructed Smeltz, who showed up at the scene, to get back into his truck 21 times. Smeltz wanted the officer to allow him to take his wife home.

Smeltz’s bond for his most recent arrest was set at $25,000.

The affidavit lists statements attributed to Smeltz and others who made similar Facebook comments which police say are untrue and represent an attack on the character and integrity of the department.

Helping to fuel the latest Smeltz  arrest Wednesday were these recent comments on Facebook:

Jason Smeltz: “The Breakfast Club is going down people!  Won’t be long now. How many more issues can you bully your way through? You have more on your plate than I do mine! Cry Cosper, cry like a little baby  boy, cry like Potter on his hands and knees begging for forgiveness. I can’t wait!”
